HIPPODROME CINEMA
HIPPODROME CINEMA
What an experience this was! My first dive into real world experience with one of the most culturally significant organizations in Gainesville, the Hippodrome.
So a little explanation here- I was tasked with giving the Hippodrome Cinema a retro rebrand; think 90s, VHS tapes, warm colorways and a nostalgic feeling. A feeling that makes you think just for a little bit, you’re back in the ‘good ole days’.
Well that was gonna be difficult, I wasn’t even alive then! But that’s what researchand exploration is for, isn't it? Speaking of let me show some of that off!
Holy logos, Batman! I know, I did many, many, MANY revisions to get to where my client was happy with. I still love some of these other ones to be honest, especially the all lowercase ones! It was an absolute ball to just go crazy in illustrator popping out logos!
Taken directly from my brand guide, I wanted to show off the most important/prominent feautres within the rebrand! Here you can see all the different logo variations, colors, branding elements and typefaces I used to make this rebrand come to life!
Here, we have TV monitor slides, which very well may be one of the first things you see when walking into the Hippodrome (outside of the poster, but I’ll show that later)!
At the Hippodrome, I rebranded their entire cinema department, including the logo, brand identity and various other collateral. Starting out here, we have a beautiful homepage to the cinema tab on the Hippodrome website!
So seeing where I’ve been to where I’m at, let’s get into all the other wonderful deliverables I made- TO THE BRAND GUIDE! insert Batman theme here…
Another important thing I wanted to note here was the purposes of these elements, specifically the type. We gotta keep a consistent brand around here, so don’t give me Futura when I asked for Helvetica Neue! This is my pride and joy and I’ll be damned if someone tries to tamper with it. But enough of that, let’s get into how I applied these to deliverables.
I did a cream and black variation of these slides to spice it up a little and not create redundancy when going you’re looking through all of the slides. These are meant to be shown on the TVs in the lobby areas of the Hippodrome, showing all of the movies they’re playing this month!
Naturally, I had to make even more advertisments to put OUTSIDE the Hippodrome so that passerbys can know the greatness of the Cinema! Also, I just had to get a picture of it IRL, so let me show you that!
It’s always so fascinating seeing your design out in the real world/social media! It definitely makes you feel proud of what you did. Also, my friends really showed up for me and liked ther crap out of this post, I feel so proud!
One thing about me, I love designing merch. Another thing about me, I actually hated doing mockups before I started this part of the rebrand- it’s character development! I hope they get around to actually making these a thing because I want some merch!
Excuse my poor photography skills as I was rushing to get to work, but LOOK AT THAATTTTTT!!! MY WORK! ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HIPPODROME! They lowkey did me dirty with the yellowed frame, but it’s okay. Moving on to even MORE stuff!
I mean come on, that keychain is stinkin’ cute! All of it is adorable really, but yeah… HIPPODROME PLEASE DROP THE MERCH!!!!
Lastly, I wanted to show off a printable handout that would be given to patrons upon entering the theatre as a nice little reminder of all the neat movies you can see at the Hipp!
Also, the QR code takes you to the Hipp Cinema website so you can buy tickets (and see more of my beautiful work, duhhhh).
